Video Submissions for NELCO

It’s summer, which means that plans for NELCO are in full swing.

For those unfamiliar, NELCO is the New England LARP Conference, the first all LARP conference in the US. It’s a fairly low key event, so most of the attendees are locals, but I thought it might be cool to get a more diverse (at least location wise) pool of people involved.

We’ve tried using skype/video chat in the past, but the internet connection at our current hotel puts a huge damper on this. But I thought we might try including non-live videos to enable more non-locals to contribute.

So, if NELCO is too far for you to travel, but you have a LARP related topic that you’d love to give a talk about or host a panel on, consider making it into a short video and sending it to us! Last year, a European LARPer who had moved to the US gave a presentation on LARP in Europe, and we’d love to learn more about LARP communities outside of New England. But your topic need not be specific to your community — anything LARP related can be a potential topic. You can view the schedule from last year’s NELCO to get an idea of the variety of topics we cover.

There are no current limits on the length of the videos. If we get a handful of short ones, we may have a block dedicated to watching and discussing them back to back. If we get longer ones, we may simply give them their own block on the schedule, with time afterwards to discuss them. The NELCO staff is currently discussing formats for collecting comments and questions from NELCO attendees to send back to the source of the video. As I’ve said, we’ve never done this before, so if there’s interest, we will be playing it by ear.

Feel free to ask questions in the comments below, or you can email either
me directly or email the NELCO staff.

We’re looking forward to viewing your videos!

Isn’t NELCO happening at Camelot this year, rather than at a hotel?

    • Fair Escape says:

Wow… word spreads fast. How did you hear it?

We are currently leaning very heavily in that direction, I think we’re just not officially confirming until we get confirmations on various things we want to happen at NELCO. (But I think we’ll be doing videos either way.)

Has the date for NELCO also changed? The website hasn’t updated.

        • Fair Escape says:

Yes, the date and location for NELCO have changed — I’ve been waiting for the staff to officially announce it before saying anything myself, but it is going to be at the end of August at Camelot.

I don’t know if you’re aware that all of the previous NELCO information is available on the NEIL site. For example, the schedule you referenced is also at http://www.interactiveliterature.org/NELCO/NELCO2014/schedule2014.html, and it also contains descriptions of the panels and workshops.
